She had played in schools in her student days, both as a soloist and accompanist, as well as performed in recitals and masterclasses in Singapore. She recently attended the OMWPA (Overseas Masters Winter Piano Academy) which took place in London, in the premise of Yehudi Menuhin. Josephine has taught the piano since 2000 and she has accumulated an extensive amount of experience teaching and working with students, some very young children, and not excluding adults.

(1) Festival packed with masterclasses, enriching music lessons such as conducting, improvisation class, and many more. In addition, there are daily recitals and talks arranged to boost the knowledge of participants of this program. To close it off, participants get the privilege to perform with superb acoustics in The Menuhin Hall for the Gala Concert. 

(2) Most recently in 2022 and 2021, Jessie was awarded the 3rd Prize and Best Etude Award in the 6th UCSI International Piano Festival and Competition Young Artist Category, and also clinched numerous top prizes which include the first prize of the Intermediate category in the 2021 National Piano and Violin Competition, first in the 2021 UCSI International Piano Festival and Competition Senior category where she was awarded a scholarship to the Overseas Masters Winter Piano Academy in Yehudi Menuhin School.

Tell us about UK. You were there and I heard it was quite an experience.

Yes! I’ve been there twice, both times for piano courses. The first was in 2016 for the Overseas Masters Winter Piano Academy, which was held at the Yehudi Menuhin School and hosted by the Malaysian pianist, Bobby Chen. The OMWPA was initially for Malaysian students, though it has opened up to Southeast Asians now. To give you an idea of the activities, we had lessons in ear training, sight reading and composition, to name a few. A number of ‘first times’ also happened there- I got to play a harpsichord, visit London and travel without my parents for the first time in my life!

She studied for two years in Vienna’s Prayner Konservatorium with Anna Kandinskaya and Barbara Gorzynsky and was chosen to participate in the Burg Feistritz Masterclasses in Austria in July 2013. She also took part in the Altensteiger Summer Music Festival 2012 in Germany. Andrea has played in masterclasses for Evgeny Zvonnikov, Polina Borisova, Natasha Boyarsky, Lutsia Ibragimova, Gerhard Schulz, Martin Riseley, and Gábor Takács-Nagy. Andrea studied piano with Ng Chong Lim and passed the ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction. In 2010, she was selected by audition to participate in the Overseas Masters Winter Piano Academy (OMWPA) held by Malaysian pianist Bobby Chen.

The prestigious Overseas Masters Winter Piano Academy (OMWPA) will be conducting auditions right here at Tenby International School, SEP. The OMWPA will be held at the Yehudi Menuhin School (UK) this coming December.
